Our emotional wellness is often overlooked. We don't discuss it at the dinner table, at work, or any place for that matter. When it come to health , we prefer to talk about our physical well-being : what we eat and we don't eat, what kind of exercise we try and don't try, or how much sleep we get or don't get.
We do this for a variety of reasons, one of which is discussing our personal well-being provides external affirmation from others. However, discussing our emotional well-being might make us feel vulnerable or embarrassed to talk about.
WHAT EXACTLY IS EMOTIONAL HEALTH ?
Emotional health is one aspect of mental health. It is your ability to cope with both positive and negative emotions, which includes your awareness of them. Emotionally healthy people have good coping mechanisms for negative emotions, and they also know when to reach out to a professional for help.
HOW TO TELL IF YOU'RE HAVING EMOTIONAL ISSUES ?
Physical and emotional well - being are linked. People who are under a lot of stress and had a lot of bad emotions may develop other health issues such as stomach upset, headaches or difficulty in sleeping. Addressing the things or behaviors that are contributing to your emotional wellness is important.
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR EMOTIONAL HEALTH ?
Stop and take a Sabbath. God made the Sabbath or a day for rest for man /woman, not the other way around. Often our emotional health suffers because we feel like we need to always been on the move, or we over commit. Take time to rest.
Know when you have had enough and change whatever that behavior, activity or thought process that is causing emotional upset. Change is hard but often necessary. You can't change any behavior or thought process if you continue to do the same things that don't work.
PLAY. Playtime is necessary for kids and adults. A good game of cards, board games, billiards , golf, softball, whatever you would like to play with, take time to play.
Give yourself grace, you are not perfect . You are not always perfect, and guess what ? You don't have to be. You can be you and sometimes you need to give yourself permission to be human. It is really ok.
